“The Barlow” is a unique renovation project located in the Northeast Development Area of Sebastopol. The history of this area is significant to the growth of the city. In 1948 the Barlow family started the business that processed apples into juice, sauce, and vinegar. Most of the buildings still occupying the site today are remnants of the Barlow apple processing plant.

The primary focus of this project is to revitalize the development of the Northeast Area and create a productive and successful mixed-use area with a focus on light industrial, food and wine, and artists’ studios and galleries displaying their work. “The Barlow” will become the gateway to Sebastopol and support the culture, economy, and heart of the community for years to come.

Renovation of the existing structure is a key component of the project. The proposed renovation meets the city’s requirement that 51% of the exterior walls need to remain. The front two metal segments of the building are connected by a breezeway and are in great shape. The rest of the structure to the rear/north end of the site are in disrepair and not up to current codes and would be costly to renovate.
